The Fresh Eyes on Ice project is centered around networks of Community-based Monitoring Teams (CBMTs) in eleven cities, towns, and villages in interior, western, and northern Alaska. CBMTs are made up of a local scientists teamed with a teacher and their classroom students in each community. CBMTs participate in collecting ice data, which directly engages community stakeholders in the scientific process and learning about their environment. The Fresh Eyes on Ice project is also encouraging CBMTs to share their findings with other members of their community to promote ice safety and environmental awareness, as well as share and compare observations with other CBMTs.
