104 years of river breakup dates from one location is quite amazing! This years break-up on April 27th was right in line with a trend towards earlier break-up starting around 1980. It was 14th earliest on record and 6 days earlier than the long-term average of May 3rd. Last year's ice out was notably earliest on April 14th and just 7 years ago in 2013 was the latest on May 20th. Interesting recent extreme variability within a distinct trend. Hats off to the Nenana Ice Classic and community of Nenana for this exceptionally longterm record!
